Waconia Welcomes the Holiday Season with Annual Tree Lighting & Small Business Saturday
The Waconia Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Waconia, invites the community to kick off the holiday season at the Annual Tree Lighting event on Friday, November 28 from 6:00-6:30PM in City Square Park. The holiday cheer continues the next day with Small Business Saturday on Saturday, November 29 with shopping all around town.
Friday, Nov. 29 – Annual Tree Lighting
This Waconia tradition brings families and neighbors together to celebrate the spirit of the season. Enjoy holiday characters, a choir leading the community in Christmas carols, hot cocoa, warm fires, and “reindeer” llamas wearing festive flair! The Women of Waconia will be collecting unopened toys for the Waconia Toy Drive so participants are invited to bring a toy or two along.
Special thanks to the event’s sponsors: North Pole Presenting Sponsor Laketown Electric Corporation originally electrified City Square Park decades ago, and we’re honored to have their continued support.
Melchert Hubert Sjodin Law Firm – We recognize Paul Melchert as one of the events original founders and appreciate MHS’s ongoing commitment to the community. True ‘N’ Fair Tree Care donates time and expertise to help set up the event and safely light the warm and cozy fires.
Waconia’s Famous Santa Claus will arrive on a lit-up fire truck. He’ll help us to send a message to encourage families to “keep the cheer here” by making a wish list with items and experiences that are right here in the town we live in and love.
Additionally, businesses are encouraged to create a festive storefront window display with lights and holiday cheer for the season.
Saturday, Nov. 30 – Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is a great time to support small. As Buddy the Elf says, “There’s room for everyone on the nice list.” The shops of Waconia put a lot of time and effort in planning for the holidays to make the shopping experience enjoyable.
When supporting local, about 68 cents of every dollar spent at a small business stays in the community. Our shops and restaurants give our town uniqueness and charm, and frequent visits by our residents and visitors help to keep these local businesses a vital part of our community. Love the experience? Leave a review to make their season even brighter.
Additionally, the City of Waconia will host Santa at the Waconia Fire Station from 12:00PM-3:00PM. Bring a toy for the Waconia Toy Drive or a canned good item for the Gather and Grow Waconia Food Shelf.
If there’s a hard-to-buy-for person on your list, Waconia Bucks at the chamber office are good at every chamber member business. Show the love by shopping, dining, and supporting local this holiday season (and all year long).
