Waconia Chamber Ready to Help Next Organization Continue Fireworks Legacy
Waconia, MN — October 30, 2025
For over 30 years, the Waconia Chamber of Commerce has proudly organized the Lake Waconia Fourth of July fireworks display—a spectacular community tradition.
After careful consideration and discussion for several years, we have made the difficult decision to discontinue producing this event. The combination of escalating costs, ongoing funding constraints, and organizational priorities for the Chamber have reached a point where continuing is no longer viable for our 501c6 nonprofit organization.
This isn’t a decision we arrived at easily. Our team and board of directors have examined alternative approaches and funding sources in recent years, but the numbers simply don’t add up to allow our nonprofit Chamber to continue taking on the financial and legal responsibilities of producing the fireworks event. We know we’re not alone—communities across Minnesota are grappling with similar realities, as evidenced by recent announcements that the Minneapolis Holidazzle and Aquatennial events, as well as the Excelsior-Lake Minnetonka Chamber, are also stepping back from their event productions and fireworks display.
While the Chamber can no longer sustain this event, we remain hopeful that another organization will step forward to carry on this annual tradition. We are committed to supporting any group interested in taking on the fireworks display and will work closely with them to transfer planning resources, vendor relationships, and institutional knowledge to ensure a successful transition.
To everyone who has made this tradition possible—our loyal business and organization sponsors, tireless volunteers, emergency responders, and community supporters—thank you. Your generosity and dedication have created decades of Fourth of July fireworks on Lake Waconia.
Though we’re closing this chapter, the Waconia Chamber isn’t going anywhere. We remain fully committed to engaging community connection and supporting the businesses that make Waconia thrive. We’ll continue to bring people together and celebrate what makes our community special.
We know this news is hard to hear. It’s hard for us, too. We appreciate your patience and grace as our community works through this change.
Interested in continuing the tradition?
If your organization is interested in learning more about taking on the coordination and funding of the Lake Waconia fireworks event, please contact the Waconia Chamber of Commerce at request@destinationwaconia.org.
